Why do your video titles display a different typeface for "The Ries Report" to your web page header? I would have thought consistency in identity is something you would advocate.

Very nice review! Backed up by strong reasons to believe. This report definitely caters to a skeptical person who wants to believe things ONLY if they are true.
Al & Laura – keep doing what you’re doing. Some people still look for facts rather than pats on the back.

for what it's worth, Al wrote an article back in september or october predicting that sony would flop and nintendo was an up and comer headed for success, back when everyone was saying the opposite. im not paying for a subscription to read it, but i remember one key point is that older companies fail to innovate, while newer companies take chances with differentiation. if this video seems obvious and unoriginal, why weren't analysts listening when Al wrote about the upcoming console war last year? the wii is textbook Al Ries. I even found a tech blog predicting the wii as a winner based on one of his books, back in november when i was writing about it for my marketing class.

the numbers don't even tell the whole story. sony just shipped 1.8 million consoles. a lot of them you could find pictures of, unsold and stacked six feet high in retailers across america. the wii only sold 3.2 because nintendo was unable to produce enough for all the people who were calling every target and gamestop in town trying to find one.

the profit margins are unfair because sony is supposedly not profiting at all on the ps3. They were reported to be taking $240 dollars in hardware losses for every PS3 sold. i found that figure on a few websites last year. i wouldnt stand by it to the death, but i know that sony was hurting in the short run. the idea was to make it up and come out ahead over the next 10 years. 10 years. in a market where each generation lasts about 4. and technology is becoming obsolete faster and faster. in the tech field, today's "better" is in tomorrow's trash heap.
